SavingStar enables users to save money on their groceries by providing them paperless ecoupons that they can load to their grocer's loyalty card. Basically, a user logs onto SavingStar and they click on the eCoupons that they want. The service links the coupons to the user's loyalty cards. Next, the user can go to the grocery story and use their loyalty card at the checkout. The money isn't deducted right from the the purchase...instead the money is automatically added to their SavingStar account within 2-30 days. SavingStar will email the user when the funds are added to their account. From there, the user can elect for a PayPal transfer or for an Amazon giftcard. Users could also donate their funds to charity as a donation if they wish. The app is available via the web, and also on Android or iOS mobile phones. Through the SavingStar homepage, users can find participating stores by plugging in their zip code.Show more screenshots »
SavingStar is based out of Waltham, MA. Their exclusive eCoupons are redeemable at over 24,000 grocery and drug stores located throughout the country. Prior to finding this service, the CEO (David Rochon) and President (Michael Libenson) built the grocery segment for Upromise.com. SavingStar spun off of Upromise in 2010 and SavingStar powers Upromise's Grocery eCoupons.
Unlike other coupon sites, on SavingStar there is nothing to print and nothing to clip. Additionally, the credit for the coupons isn't redeemed at purchase. Instead these amounts tally into a user's SavingStar account. This may be an opportunity for extreme couponers to put together fantastic deals by "stacking" the offers of SavingStar on top of their regular coupons and purchases.
SavingStar appears to be a legitimate and professional company and their website reflects this. The app was fast, responsive and is easy to use via the web or through their mobile apps. It would be nice if the funds from purchases appeared immediately. Additionally, users need to accumulate at least $5 in order to "cash out." This may seem like a slight disadvantage, but overall the app is beneficial and customer-friendly.
SavingStar is a free application to use.
SavignStar is a good app for those in the US to use to save money on groceries. For anyone who is frugal and who enjoys the coupon game, SavingStar is a unique and new service that these people could benefit from.
